LESSON 1- Salutations
Hello, and welcome to French with Anne, level 1, lesson 1. Today, we’re going to learn how to say hello, say your name and goodbye. Not much for a first time, but I want to keep it simple and easy. One step at a time is the best way to be successful!
So, to say hello in French, it is: BONJOUR. You usually say Bonjour only if it’s the first time of the day you see the person. You don’t need to repeat this greeting each time you see this person. If it’s a good friend you’re going to say hello to, you can say “SALUT”. Salut has the same meaning as BONJOUR, but it is much more informal. So don’t say “ SALUT” to your boss or to someone you don’t know!
Now, what to do after saying Hello? What about telling your name? My name is XYZ in French is “JE M’APPELLE XYZ”.
For example my name is Anne is going to be: Je m’appelle Anne. To ask: “what’s your name?” It is: “Comment vous appellez-vous ?”
Now, it’s time to go. To say goodbye in French, say “AU REVOIR”. This is working anytime of the day, for anyone.
let’s review these new expressions.
Je m’appelle XYZ
Comment vous appelez-vous ?
That’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed learning these expressions and are going to keep practicing! See You next time! Au revoir !
